In pursuit of peace– and a business that supports it.

Most small business owners I’ve met live in a place of drama, panic, hustle. I was one of those business owners. I’ve decided that I no longer want to build or run a business that way. Because of this shift, I created an entirely new way to approach startup. I know without a doubt it will create business owners who know how to disengage with drama (which is in opposition to peace + profit) and get back to the work at hand.

Welcome to The Slow Startup– a place to begin a business of purpose, profit, and peace. I’m so happy you’re here.

Peace.

However you define it, is something almost every single client I work with is looking for.

Time without worry– that bills won’t be paid, that our children won’t feel loved, that our bodies won’t be able to rest.

More than anything, we are looking for peace.

And what I want to say to you dear business owner, is that peace creates profit, and profit can feed the children and buy your body more rest.

Peace is the absence of worry.

Peace is intimately linked to faith.

Peace is necessary to make amazing business decisions, get work done that feels oh so scary, approach humans who could be potential clients with compassion and confidence.

How you learn to create peace in your own life right now is work that will pay dividends when you begin your business.

And if you’re someone like me, who already runs a business, peace will help you solve problems you wish you didn’t have– the ones that, without peace and faith, would crush you.

GET BACK INTO A SPACE OF PEACE.

Business is, for most people, an entirely new universe. A new language and terrain. That does not mean you have to choose panic. That does not mean you have to choose fear. Sure, those passengers will always be along for the ride, they’re tools your brain uses to reign in your actions. To steer you out of ‘danger’.

But a brain without faith won’t know how to find peace. And peace will help you calm your body enough to take the next step, again and again.

It’s simple, really. But business school won’t teach you this. Business school is all head, this is all heart and body.

Your body and brain will be triggered by business. It just will. It’s inevitable.

Your ability to put yourself back into Peace is crucial in taking purposeful action in business– again and again and again.

What you don’t want is a brain that is acting out of panic and fear and hustle. That brain will always have to ask others to solve their problems. It will always reinforce the belief that you don’t have the answers and that someone else out there will.

Well, if you’re running your own business that is a scary place to live.

This is not to say that you have to do everything or be an expert at everything. It’s just to say that a panicked brain will reduce its capacity to do anything except survive. It won’t use creativity. It won’t see opportunities that are right in front of it. It will not operate at its full capacity, and you need it to do so.

So, we find peace– then we get back to work.

In our world, at The Slow Startup, we create for every client a sort of prayer or mantra or meditation– one that calms the body and connects it to something greater than itself. It’s particular for every person, because every person needs to hear something unique to calm their body.

They use this meditation to come back to self, to ground back to the world, to connect to something greater than themselves or the issue they’re currently facing.

And from this place of peace, they take the next step with calm, with confidence, and with the full force of their brain.
