Conversations with our Inner Critic.

A fundamental relationship we build in The Slow Startup is with our Inner Critic.

You know– it’s that voice that exists to kill every high vibe you have. And without awareness, most of us listen to that voice.

We believe what it says–

“You’re not good enough.”

“They won’t hire you.”

“No one wants to date you.”

“You’re unlovable.”

“No one will ever pay you what you want.”

“You can’t spend the money on THAT.”

Besides being a total buzz kill, the bigger issue with the Inner Critic is that they operate without facts but try to present truth.

I’d wager a bet that if you asked your Inner Critic what it means to be ‘good enough’ it would have a hell of a time giving you a complete answer.

That’s both the power and the weakness of The Inner Critic. It cannot be challenged without fully falling apart. But don’t be surprised if it learns to be better as you catch on to it.

Where it would use something generic, “You’re not good enough,” it’ll learn to replace it with what works– “You think you’re good now, but you’re not.”

It will not let up.

Sometimes, my response is to invite my Inner Critic in for a glass of wine. Or dinner.

Sometimes, I just tell it to FUCK OFF and slam the door.

Not all thoughts are up for discussion. I will never debate my worthiness– with anyone, much less my Self.
